Nelson County honors longtime supervisor Tommy Harvey and registrar Jackie Britt

The Nelson County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 9 adopted separate resolutions honoring Thomas D. "Tommy" Harvey for 41 years of service and Jacqueline "Jackie" Britt for her tenure as general registrar and director of elections.
The board read Resolution R2025‑82 recognizing Harvey’s long public service and contributions — from water and sewer improvements to broadband and school projects — and voted to name former Board Room 420 the Thomas D. Harvey Meeting Room. A written statement read on his behalf said, "Serving on this board has been one of my great honors of my life," and thanked staff and county residents for their support. (Statement read by a family member and staff.)
The board also read Resolution R2025‑83 honoring Jackie Britt’s more than a decade as the county’s registrar and director of elections, noting oversight of more than 30 general and primary elections and her service on statewide election bodies. The resolution thanked Britt for her work on election training and for professional certifications at the state and national levels.
Both resolutions were moved, seconded and adopted by roll call. Family members and colleagues were invited forward for brief presentations and photographs after the votes. The board’s formal recognition will be reflected in the county record and the renamed meeting room will carry Harvey’s name going forward.
