West Central Community Action asks Page County for $4,000 to support local services

Mueller outlined county-level program activity and client demographics: 494 households served (more than 1,000 individuals), 52% single-person households, 60% with income below 100% of the poverty guideline, and 54% of client households owning or buying their homes. She highlighted Head Start (one classroom in Clarinda serving eight children), Early Head Start home-based services (seven children), childcare resource and referral support and weatherization work. She said weatherization amounted to about $179,000 in services for five households and that the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helped 488 households for about $256,000; the agency delivered more than $823,000 in program dollars directly to county clients and reported over $1,000,000 of services countywide for the fiscal year.
Board members thanked Mueller and said they would consider the $4,000 request as part of the normal budget process.
Next steps: the supervisors said they would review the funding request during budget deliberations.
