Council approves tax payments, appoints alternate electrical inspector and tables regional enrollment study

At its Nov. 24 meeting the Cumberland Town Council handled a set of administrative items.
The council authorized the town manager to accept a $27,000 payment for delinquent taxes on tax map U14 Lot 008 and a $4,900 payment for delinquent taxes on tax map R04 Lot 004 after staff described payment plans and staff confidence in the parties’ ability to address remaining balances.
Council also appointed William Longley as an alternate electrical inspector while the town’s current inspector is on medical leave. Staff said Longley is certified and has been performing inspections; the appointment provides short-term redundancy and staff noted longer-term succession planning will be studied.
Finally, the council discussed participating in a cost-sharing enrollment and growth study for MSAD 51 with North Yarmouth. Staff recommended clarifying the study’s scope and the allocation of costs among the three parties; the council voted to table participation until representatives from the three jurisdictions can meet to refine scope and budget.
