Board moves to begin RFPs for facilities work, accepts $1 million RACP grant and a donation from Boeing

The William Penn School District property committee on Nov. 24 presented several facilities motions for the board’s consideration and voice approval.
Committee chair Jan Tong moved to begin the RFP process for the district facilities and maintenance contract, to solicit RFPs for full replacement of the Penwood Middle School roof, and to initiate an RFP for construction of an elevator at Bell Avenue. The committee also recommended formally accepting the bids for the Ninth Grade Academy renovation and addition project.
Notably, the agenda listed receipt of an additional $1,000,000 RACP (Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program) grant to help offset costs for the East Lansdowne / Evans project. The committee also reported a donation from Boeing of 37 stacking chairs to the district.
Board members voiced support for moving forward on the Ninth Grade Academy roof/renovation, while noting bids and RFPs are initial steps: approval to begin an RFP or accept bids does not itself authorize construction spending until contracts are fully vetted.
Next steps: Administration will proceed with the RFP process and formal contract reviews; the board will receive contract documents and bids for further action and solicitor review before final awards.
