Valencia Peterson, founder and director of Open Door Abuse Awareness Prevention (ODEP), addressed the William Penn School District board during public comment on Nov. 24 to request that the district release the full remaining amount due under a two‑year grant contract rather than distributing the money in installments.
Peterson said ODEP began serving district students in September and that much of the program’s early costs have been covered from the organization’s reserves; she told the board ODEP serves about 70 girls each Tuesday and is developing a complementary program for young men. She asked whether the district’s practice of staggered disbursements would require ODEP to return to the board for additional approval and requested clarity on the disbursement schedule.
Board President Monique Boykins thanked Peterson and said Superintendent Dr. B would speak with her offline to address the question; the meeting transcript records that the superintendent arranged to follow up outside the meeting.
Next steps: Dr. B indicated he and staff would meet with Peterson after the meeting to clarify the payment schedule and reporting expectations. The motion on the education agenda that includes the Girls on the Run/ODEP MOU was presented as subject to solicitor review.
