Arkansas City accepts $235,500 bid for park pickleball courts

Arkansas City commissioners voted to accept a $235,500 bid from Multi Sports LLC to design and build new pickleball courts at the city park, a city staff member said during Monday’s meeting.
City staff told commissioners they issued an RFP and received three bids: Multi Sports LLC at $235,500; Mid America Court Works at $240,430; and Pickle Tile at $436,588. The staff recommendation favored Multi Sports LLC as the lowest responsive bidder and because that bid includes full lighting installation and removal and replacement of the old slab.
The project is contingent on securing a $115,840 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant (listed in the record as KY/ KWLP Land and Water Conservation Fund in the draft materials) and local matching funds being raised through the Legacy Foundation. Staff said local fundraising was roughly $5,000 short at the time of the meeting and that a $12,000 spectator viewing-stand was included as an optional add-on that could be deferred if necessary. “We received three proposals back… Multi Sports is the one that we’re gonna recommend we go with,” the staff presenter said.
Commissioners moved and approved a resolution authorizing the city to accept the Multi Sports LLC bid for an amount not to exceed $235,500. The motion carried unanimously.
Next steps include finalizing the grant paperwork required by the federal funding source (which includes Buy American documentation for steel and other materials) and executing a contract with the selected vendor once funding is confirmed. The city indicated construction could begin in spring, timing to depend on vendor scheduling and confirmed funding.
