Bakersfield youth organizers present Community Innovations programs to council

Derek Urenda, who said he is 17 and a youth organizer, and Brianna Ginn, who said she is 22, described the group's mission of confronting mass incarceration, health and housing inequities by uplifting impacted voices and providing mentorship, advocacy training and youth empowerment opportunities.
Derek and Brianna said the program offers biweekly safe-space meetings, advocacy training to help youth work with elected officials, and leadership opportunities to organize events that bring the community together. They asked for support and highlighted that Community Innovations centers youth leadership and healing-centered practices to break cycles of harm.
The council thanked the speakers for sharing their work; no formal council action was requested during the appearance.
