Golden Empire Transit unveils 'Tucan Trolley' downtown service starting Jan. 7

Golden Empire Transit announced a new downtown circulator named the Tucan Trolley that will begin service Jan. 7.
Chris James, CEO of Golden Empire Transit, told the City Council the trolley — named for a local landmark building — will run every 15 minutes Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and carry a fare of $1.65 per ride. The service will travel down 18th Street between Q and H, loop along Truxton and serve Old Town Kern restaurants and businesses.
James said the service is intended to reduce congestion, support downtown businesses and make it easier for residents, employees and visitors to access downtown amenities. Golden Empire Transit will hold a ribbon-cutting at the Chamber Building on 18th Street at 10 a.m. on the service launch day; councilmembers will receive invitations.
