Bakersfield council approves multiple appointments, consent calendar and 2026 committee schedule

The Bakersfield City Council on Dec. 17 approved a slate of appointments, cleared its consent calendar and adopted a committee calendar for 2026.
Vice Mayor moved to appoint Thomas Edmonds to the Fire Civil Services Commission after the city clerk announced Edmonds had received a majority with six votes. The motion passed with Councilmember Gonzales absent.
The council next filled an at-large vacancy on the Kern Mosquito and Vector Control District; the clerk announced that Florin Cor received a majority (six votes) and the council approved the appointment. For the North of the River Recreation and Park District, ballots showed Jeffrey C. Chudy as the apparent winner with five votes; the council approved his appointment.
The council also approved consent calendar items 7a–7i, including corrected agreements noted in staff memoranda for items 7e20 and 7e24. No recusals or requests to remove items were made.
On new business the council adopted the Jan.–Dec. 2026 council committee calendar. City Manager Clegg told the council the calendar repeats the alternating-committee pattern used in 2025 and attempts to avoid League of Cities events and holidays.
City Clerk Mariko announced outcomes and the record stated each motion was approved "with Councilmember Gonzales absent." No formal vote tallies by member were recorded in the meeting minutes beyond the majorities and the votes reported by the clerk.
