During a brief special meeting, an unidentified board member moved to set a public hearing on the annexation petition under Texas Education Code chapter 13.051 for Feb. 17, 2026, and directed the superintendent to publish all postings required by statute. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. "I'll make a motion for the hearing related to the file petition for annexation under chapter 13 dot 0 5 1 of the Texas Education Code," said the trustee who moved the motion. The board voted "Aye" and the chair declared the motion carried.
In regular session the board approved three separate bond-funded purchases after staff presentations and trustee questions:
- Playground equipment for Montgomery Elementary and Keenan Elementary. Staff said the items complete the district's elementary playground upgrades under the 2022 bond and presented two quotes (one listed at $376,175 for Montgomery Elementary). A trustee moved to approve purchases for both campuses; the motion carried.
- Replacement of rooftop HVAC units at Montgomery High School. Staff said five rooftop units serving the athletic locker-room area have failed or are failing; they recommended the base bid from EnviroTech Systems (recommended on value and reuse of existing curb openings). Warranty options were discussed (the base bid includes typical short-term warranties; a two-year parts-and-labor extension was quoted at roughly $16,000). Trustees approved the replacement using bond funds and asked staff to return with costs if they pursue replacing another aging unit that may require a crane.
- Technology upgrade for access-control card readers across the district. Technology staff proposed replacing most door readers (except two newest campuses) to modernize access-control mechanics, add an intrusion panel at the natatorium and enable more secure badge profiles. The board approved the purchase and a planned summer rollout of updated cards and readers.
