Explore Elgin Arts & Culture moves to year‑round schedule in 2026, organizers say
Summary

City-contracted event coordinator Megan Stewart said the Explore Elgin Arts and Culture program will transition from a concentrated weekend in May to a year-long schedule beginning in 2026.
"That has been in the spring previously, but we're going to move it to an all year event coming up in 2026," Stewart said, explaining the change.
Stewart said the weekend format often produced too many simultaneous activities, which kept organizers and hosts from attending each other’s events. To address that, the program will focus on one theme each month so organizers and participants can engage across multiple events throughout the year. Stewart said the city plans to release a schedule soon and to kick off the year‑round series in January.
Stewart provided background on her event experience, saying she worked in postal-service management as a postmaster in Manor and Pflugerville before retiring and joining the Sesquicentennial Committee, which led to more event work with Elgin.
Why it matters: moving arts programming to a spaced, theme-based calendar may increase participation by reducing concurrent events and allowing artists, volunteers and hosts to attend more activities.
Organizers said more details and the finalized monthly schedule will be posted publicly before the program begins in 2026.
