Hamilton County commissioners voted Dec. 18 to approve a $19,500,000 agreement with a video contractor to replace and upgrade the 'jungle vision' audio-visual system at Paycor Stadium. Administrators said the video portion of the project is roughly $1,000,000 under the previously estimated budget.
Commissioner Alicia Rees asked that the item be pulled for separate consideration because she had unanswered questions about operational outcomes and cost timing. In debate she warned against repeatedly absorbing costs or allowing taxpayers to shoulder recurring problems at public venues. "We can't keep just turning a blind eye to this stuff," Rees said, referring to operational and attendee-management concerns raised in prior events.
When the board voted on the stadium video contract as a separate by-leave item, Commissioners Denise Driehaus and Stephanie Summer O'Doomis voted to approve the measure and Commissioner Rees voted no; the item passed by majority vote.
Administration said the contract covers the video portion of the stadium's audiovisual upgrade and follows prior approvals for electric and general construction work. The board also said the project is intended to modernize a public asset that will be used for a variety of events, not only football.
