Votes at a glance: Aberdeen council approves generator purchase, surplus transfer, consent items and bills

At its Nov. 24 meeting the Aberdeen City Council approved a set of routine and operational items.

The council authorized the purchase of a trailer-mounted generator from Stan Houston to replace an older unit. Public Works staff said the recommended unit is 180 kilowatts and replaces a 250-kilowatt generator purchased in the 1980s; staff received four quotes and selected the lowest quote adequate for the city's needs.

Council declared a used Wayland light bar (about 10 years old) surplus and approved transferring it to the rural fire department to help reduce costs for that volunteer service, a practice the city has used previously.

The council approved the consent calendar containing board minutes, a lottery notice, a taxi-cab license, an event permit for Aldersgate Church, a retail liquor license renewal and mobile home park license renewals. Council also approved the night's bills with the clerical corrections discussed at the start of the meeting (Wellmark corrected to $119,334; Trav's Outfitters corrected to $17,538; Department of Revenue payment codes corrected) and one council member noted acceptance of payment to Dakota Bank.

City Manager Dave McNeil announced a work session on Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. to discuss the completed Banner & Associates water and sewer study. Public Works reminded residents that a citywide snow emergency is declared after 3 inches of snowfall, triggering parking restrictions and staged clearing; holiday garbage schedule changes were also announced (double pickups Wednesday and Monday).
