The Board of Control of the Norton City Council voted Monday to approve three equipment purchases for public works and school safety, awarding contracts for school-zone flashing signs, a Tomcat sweeper and a front plow with a tailgate spreader.

The board approved spending of up to $10,200 to purchase and install school-zone flashing signs on Hametown Road outside Hametown Christian Academy, awarding that work to ARL. An unidentified member said delays from the manufacturer had held up the permanent signs and ‘‘we have temporary signage out there right now to protect the kids now, which I'm thankful for.’’ The motion to approve the sign purchase was moved by an unidentified member and seconded; a roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried.

Members next approved the purchase of a Tomcat sweeper from Newport Solutions for up to $8,656.95 for use in the new service garage to reduce dust and dirt while the driveway remains unpaved. During discussion a council member asked whether the vendor’s discounted freight or two-unit pricing applied and requested ‘‘a copy’’ of the full manufacturer warranty; staff said they would provide the warranty details.

The board then approved buying a front plow and a tailgate spreader from Henderson. The initial item description in the record listed the amount as ‘‘not to exceed $23,001.24 and 20¢,’’ while the motion later was recorded with $23,124.20; the record contains both figures and the minutes reflect the motion carried. A council member noted the purchase is in the 2025 budget and thanked the street department for recent snow-clearing work.

The chair moved to accept the minutes of Nov. 17, 2025; that motion was seconded and, with no objections, the minutes were accepted. A motion to adjourn at 6:10 p.m. followed and the meeting ended.

No statutes, ordinances or grant sources were cited during the meeting; staff committed to provide the manufacturer warranty language for the sweeper upon request.
