Board recognizes Alamo Heights High sports-media team, national-board-certified teachers and student council activities

The Alamo Heights ISD board opened Wednesday's meeting with recognitions and a student council update.

District leaders introduced the Alamo Heights High School Sports Media Team and adult supervisors, describing the students'roles operating cameras, graphics and live-streaming during athletic events. Staff noted the program had grown with new staff and a platform partnership and that equipment was supported in part through a competitive grant from the San Antonio Charity Ball.

The board also recognized two teachers who earned National Board Certification: Sarah Garcia from Cambridge Elementary and Shelly Bynan from the junior school. Both described the program's rigor and thanked colleagues and family for support. "There's 2% in the nation and 1% of teachers in Texas that get this recognition," Garcia said, calling the designation "an honor" (Sarah Garcia).

Student council president Greer Patel and vice president Lindsey Lam summarized fall/winter activities including a winter First Friday, hot cocoa fundraising and outdoor lawn games; they said the council is planning a safe-driving event for spring and community activities for Valentine's week.
