Public commenter urges discussion of disciplinary process; enforcement reports scheduled for next meeting

During public comment at its Aug. 9, 2024, meeting, the California Board of Psychology heard a request to create more opportunities for people who have experienced the disciplinary process to share their perspectives. Simone Ravitz, a public commenter, said she had been removed from the meeting site several times and described having personal experience with the disciplinary process, asking whether those with that experience might be allowed to contribute and share thoughts.
Mr. Fu and other board members responded by noting that enforcement items are presented at every meeting. Mr. Fu said the enforcement division and the enforcement committee reports (agenda items 9 and 10) are regularly scheduled and will be presented in person at the next meeting in Berkeley by Ms. Montaribio and Dr. Phillips. The board did not take formal action in open session related to the commenter’s suggestion; enforcement matters are regularly addressed during the enforcement committee and enforcement division reports and, in many cases, in closed session when individual matters are involved.
The open session portion of the meeting concluded after these public comments; the board moved into closed session for most of the meeting’s substantive business and returned briefly to open session to adjourn.
