The Christian County Commission was told by county staff that an additional $354,705 in quarter‑cent law‑enforcement sales‑tax revenue arrived after the 2025 budget was adopted and will be posted for at least 10 days before the commission votes on an amendment.
County staff member Amy Denton explained that the amount ‘‘is an additional $354,705 split between a couple of account codes’’ and that the money is intended to be shared between sheriff and prosecutor expenses. When a commissioner asked, ‘‘So where have those funds been?,’’ Denton said they had been ‘‘sitting in that account’’ and that some of the funds had already been dispersed. She also said the money accrues interest while held.
Denton told the commission the 2025 budget had been approved before this money was distributed, so the procedure is to post the proposed amendment publicly for a minimum of 10 days and then return to the commission for formal approval at the next meeting. Commissioners confirmed the 10‑day minimum and asked staff to schedule the item for the next agenda after the posting period.
The commission did not vote on the amendment during the session; staff said the item will return for formal action after the required public‑notice period.
