Oceanside Adopts 2025 California Building Standards Into City Code
Summary
On a unanimous vote, the council adopted ordinances amending city code to incorporate the 2025 California Building Standards (residential, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, green building and fire codes) and related local amendments.
The Oceanside City Council on Nov. 19 adopted an ordinance to amend chapters 6 and 11 of the Oceanside City Code to reflect the 2025 additions to the California Building Standards Code. City Attorney Burke presented the second reading; the measure passed 5–0.
Staff framed the change as a standard, periodic adoption to align local codes with the statewide 2025 residential, energy, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and green building standards, and the 2024 Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code. The update is an administrative but legally necessary action that brings local enforcement and permitting into alignment with state regulations.
The motion to adopt the ordinance passed unanimously with no public speakers on the item. Staff presented the ordinance title and the council proceeded directly to a vote. The city clerk recorded the 5–0 passage.
