Riverbank staff announces Dia de los Muertos, watering rules and housing element review

Staff announced the sixth annual Dia de los Muertos celebration in Downtown Riverbank on Saturday, Nov. 1, featuring live music, altars, dancing and food. They also described the winter watering schedule: even addresses may water on Tuesday and Saturday; odd addresses may water on Wednesday and Sunday; permitted watering times are before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.; no watering is allowed on Monday, Thursday or Friday or within 48 hours of measurable rainfall.
Edits to the city’s third draft housing element are being finalized and will be posted online for a seven-day public review; after that period staff will remit the document to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for a 60-day review. Staff also reminded residents that the statewide special election is Tuesday, Nov. 4; absentee ballots should have arrived by mail, a ballot drop box is at Costless Foods, and the Riverbank Community Center voting center opens Saturday, Nov. 1 and will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Other announcements included volunteer opportunities: a weekly Christian food-sharing program at Scout Hall (Fridays, 7 a.m.–10 a.m.), a veterans event hosted by American Veterans First on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. (3228 Santa Fe), the Historical Society meeting on Nov. 10 at 5 p.m., a women’s club meeting on Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m., and a community fundraising event, Shop with a Cop, on Nov. 8. Staff also noted Parks & Rec-supported youth soccer season participation and a planned Aemetis tour on Nov. 20 (RSVP by Nov. 18).
