Library and Columbia County Authors plan 2026 festival and create local-author collection

The library will house the special collection near the magazines shelf and expects to hold roughly 40 or more titles from local authors who live or work in Columbia County or are members of the Scappoose writers group or the Saint Helens writers guild. The director said donated titles will be cataloged and made available for checkout; the library will not purchase most entries and will not accept AI-generated works.
Organizers also discussed a February writing challenge to replace a disrupted National Novel Writing Month program. The group requested inclusion of the Writers Guild in the library newsletter and said early turnout for writing events has improved since the pandemic. Next steps include finalizing festival programming and promoting submission details via the library website.
