Local authors form alliance, plan 'Stories by the River' festival Feb. 14–Mar. 14

Ellen, a board member, said the Columbia County Authors Alliance has been officially founded and described plans for a new festival called Stories by the River.
“We have a name for this festival… It’s the Stories by the River festival,” Ellen said, adding that it will kick off on Valentine's Day and wrap up with an anthology event on March 14. She and Jana are founding members of the alliance and said the festival will include workshops, late-night writing sessions at the library, special programs for writers and readers, and an anthology publication celebration.
Jana described programming that will run through February and into March, including a late-night write at the library, workshops for writers of all ages and abilities, and a March 7 wrap-up tied to publication activities. The library will host several festival events, a family story time and a book art program; local authors’ materials (30-plus submissions) will be collected for a special county authors’ collection to be cataloged and displayed at the library.
The alliance has applied to the Columbia County Cultural Coalition for funding to support the festival and is coordinating with the Friends group and other county libraries for promotion and participation.
Next steps: finalize the festival schedule, catalog donated special-collection items and, if the coalition grant is awarded, use the funds to support programming and promotion.
