At its Oct. 21 meeting the Yakima School District board approved two formal actions: ratification of a three‑year agreement with the Yakima Education Association (YEA) and a routine resolution to cancel outstanding warrants.
Mister Marrieta presented the YEA agreement as a three‑year contract with these main provisions: a 2.5% base‑wage increase in the first year plus an optional additional day, a 0.5% increase to the Time, Responsibility and Incentive (TRI) contract in year two, and a $500,000 increase to a VEBA account in year three. Director Walker moved to approve the agreement; the motion was seconded. Director Navarro Junior recused from discussion earlier and recorded an abstention on the roll call. During the roll call, Directors Walker and Rice and President Beckett voted Aye; Director Navarro Junior abstained. The president announced the motion carried.
Assistant Superintendent Jake Cooper presented Resolution 02.25.26 to cancel outstanding warrants roughly one year old so they may be returned to the state as unclaimed property per state procedure. The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.
These items were approved without further amendments.
