Mr. Brown told council on Nov. 10 that construction activity at Memorial Field is moving forward and that staff will arrange a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of work on a new concession stand. He said the ceremony is likely to take place before Thanksgiving and that invitations will be sent by email.
"There'll be 8 shovels. Sorry, 9 shovels," Mr. Brown said, describing ceremonial participation by council members. He asked that long-standing community contributors, including Charles Wiley and the Black Positive Brothers who built the first concession stand in the 1990s, be invited to the event.
Mr. Brown said more details will be shared by email and that staff will coordinate community outreach to ensure residents and local organizations receive notice of the ceremony.
