At the Committee of the Whole on Nov. 10 the mayor introduced Resolution R-92, which would establish an annual Memorial Day celebration for the Village of Lincoln Heights to be held the Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day. Former Mayor Hadden requested the designation.
Councilwoman Laverne Mitchell described the village’s long-standing practice of honoring veterans — in particular Gold Star families — and said the celebration typically begins inside Village Hall and moves outdoors to the flagpole. "We always focus on the Gold Star families," Mitchell said, noting families who attended in prior years.
The presentation was a first reading; no formal vote was taken and council asked members to review the resolution language. The item will return to council after any requested edits and committee review.
