Summary

The council adopted a resolution to rescind the Village of Mariemont’s Commercial Local Board of Building Appeals (LBBA) certification and to direct commercial building-permit appeals to the State of Ohio Board of Building Appeals (OBBA).
Speaker 12 explained that the village previously created an appeals board in 2001 that handled both commercial and residential appeals, but residential appeals were later transferred to Hamilton County in 2016, leaving the commercial appeals process unclear. The proposed legislation updates the code to direct commercial appeals to the state panel and cleans up a long-standing gap.
The council voted to suspend rules to allow second and third readings and then passed the resolution by roll call. They also voted to invoke the emergency clause so the change takes effect immediately. A majority vote in each recorded roll call was in favor; specific members recorded as voting "Aye" on adoption included Mister Ayre, Mister Bartlett, Doctor Lewis, Mister Vanstone and Mister York.
