Mariemont Tree Board reports heavy volunteer investment and plans for 70 street trees this fall

Kristen Van Scoy, chair of the Village of Mariemont Tree Advisory Board, told council the board’s 2025 allocation of $66,500 supported street-tree planting and proactive maintenance programs.
"These funds already enabled us to have 127 trees professionally pruned in 2025," Van Scoy said. She said the board anticipates planting about 70 trees in November and will begin dormant-season pruning for 2025–26 in November. The board also plans an inventory of District 1 street trees, which it said it has never counted.
Van Scoy said volunteers donated 915 hours to the village over the past 12 months; the board values that contribution at about $30,000. She described a new resident request process the board uses to prioritize planting and said the board met nearly all resident requests last year except one that posed a traffic concern.
The board asked council to renew its funding allocation for 2026 and requested a degree of flexibility so dormant-season pruning — which does not align neatly with municipal fiscal years — can proceed when arboricultural timing requires it.
Council members praised the board’s work on tree survival rates and the professional pruning program, and the mayor and council thanked Van Scoy for the update. No formal vote on 2026 funding occurred during the report; the board’s requests will be considered in the 2026 budget process.
