Princeton board approves contracts, special-ed resolution and board-of-revision filings

The Princeton City Schools Board of Education on Monday approved a set of district business items including service contracts, a special-education resolution and resolutions authorizing board-of-revision complaints for certain 2024 property sales.
Trustees voted to: adopt a contract with RTF Fire Protection to convert fire-panel phone lines to cellular service (board materials said the change should save about $12,000 annually); approve a one-year contract with Translate Live LLC to offer phone- and QR-code-based live translation for parents and IEP meetings; and adopt a resolution to align district special-education policies and procedures with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
During discussion of the board-of-revision resolutions, the treasurer said recent changes in state law set filing thresholds — at least a 10% difference and $554,000 between auditor valuation and sales price — that permit the district to challenge some commercial and industrial sales. The treasurer said outside counsel handles the filings and that the board will weigh legal fees against potential gains.

Mr. Card, who described the fire-panel change and the Translate Live demonstration to trustees, said the cellular conversion requires up-front costs but yields ongoing savings. The treasurer said the district must monitor the corporate-donation fund for deficit spending and will bring a fourth financial report at the next meeting.
The board then moved into executive session to discuss the employment and compensation of a public employee under Ohio Revised Code section 121.22(G)(1).
Next steps: the board will continue routine oversight of contracts and bring follow-up financial detail at the next meeting; outside counsel will proceed with authorized board-of-revision filings on qualifying sales.
