Mount Healthy superintendent: levy failed, district faces potential deficit by FY2028
Summary
The Mount Healthy superintendent reported the Nov. 2025 levy did not pass and said the district’s financial forecast shows deficit spending could begin by fiscal year 2028 without additional revenue; the board committed to collaborative planning and community engagement.
The Mount Healthy Board of Education heard from the superintendent on Nov. 10 that the district’s November levy did not pass and that, without new revenue, the district’s financial forecast indicates it may begin running a deficit in fiscal year 2028. The superintendent thanked board members, staff and community volunteers for outreach efforts during the campaign and said the margin was close.
The superintendent said the board and administration will spend the next several months developing options and will involve the commission, administration and community in evaluating next steps. She emphasized transparency and continuing community engagement, including monthly “coffee chats,” and outlined plans to showcase student programs at upcoming city events, such as a proposed performance by the high school choir at the city’s Christmas in Mount Healthy event.
Board members asked for continued collaboration and review of financial options; no formal revenue actions or new levy proposals were approved at the meeting. The superintendent also announced upcoming changes to the board roster: Doug Frazier will join the board in January, Doctor Turner and Mister Carter will leave after the December meeting, and Tina Butler will join the board but was not present at the Nov. 10 session.
The board did not vote on any new revenue measures at this meeting. The superintendent said staff will present proposals and analyses to the board in the coming months to address the forecasted shortfall.
