Texas Gas Transmission/Boardwalk representatives presented plans July 14 to expand the Crosby compressor station, add a second compressor unit and related equipment on property adjacent to Miami Whitewater Park.
The presentation, led by Mike McMann and Kyle Stevens, said the work would enlarge two pressure regulators, lengthen the control building by about 50 feet and add gas‑cooling equipment and temporary workspaces. "We're going to be adding to it," McMann said, and company materials noted they contribute "approximately 4,300,000" in county ad valorem taxes for their local facilities. Stevens said the expansion would ‘‘twin’’ the existing unit — in plain terms, add a second turbine — to meet increased local demand from a customer named in the presentation as "Duke of Ohio." He added that the project will require approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission before construction begins.
Why it matters: the station sits near public parkland and residential areas. Residents asked about proximity, noise, safety and schedule. Company representatives said the parcel is roughly 18–20 acres, pipe diameters near the station are about 26" and 30", and adding the new unit would raise local pipeline pressure by roughly 150 psi above the present operating levels described in the presentation. On noise, Stevens said the facility is required to meet federal day‑night average limits and that the company will hold the 55 dBA standard at the nearest noise‑sensitive areas.
Safety and oversight: the presenters described multiple safety features — automatic shutdown on detected leaks, fire and gas sensors inside the building, remote gas control monitoring in Owensboro, Kentucky, and silencers on emergency blow‑off valves. "We don't do that any longer," Stevens said, responding to a resident's concern about historic venting at the site. The company also committed to bring first responders and station operators to site tours and training before a second unit goes into service.
Schedule and outreach: company representatives said they expect to file an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in October and estimated roughly a year for regulatory review, with construction expected to begin in early 2027 and project completion targeted in 2027. They said federally required mailed notices will go to residents within about a half‑mile and that the company will do additional, friendlier outreach and publish a project website with contact information.
What happens next: the presentation closed with commitments to notify affected residents, offer first‑responder training, provide a public website and return to local meetings as the project approaches construction. Trustees and residents asked the company for clarifications on tax figures and county names that appeared inconsistently in the presentation materials; company staff said they would provide further details and contacts.
