Friends of Whitewater Shaker Village invite community to fall open houses; restoration work ongoing

Jennifer Borneman, a member of the board of Friends of the Whitewater Shaker Village, told trustees the village at 11813 Oxford Road is over 200 years old and that volunteers have completed carpentry, electrical work, drywall, painting and a new accessibility ramp.
Borneman invited residents to two open houses — a Grandparents' Day event from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, and the eighth annual Passport to the Past on Saturday, Oct. 4 — and described a new permanent exhibit called "Simply Shaker." She said the village is the only brick Shaker meeting house remaining in the United States and that small-group tours are available via the group's website.
Borneman asked trustees and residents to attend and to consider volunteering; she described recent restoration milestones and noted the group offers family-friendly, hands-on activities at the open houses.
