Crosby Township approves $80,000 supplemental appropriation to finish firehouse; agrees to join joint feasibility study

Crosby Township trustees voted Nov. 10 to adopt a supplemental appropriation of $80,000 to complete construction and change-order work on the township’s new firehouse, and authorized participation in a third-party feasibility study about a joint fire and EMS district.

Trustees were presented with project accounting showing $1,034,511.48 already allocated to the firehouse and a recent change order that increased the project cost. Staff calculated a supplemental need of about $78,586.64; trustees moved to adopt and rounded the appropriation to $80,000. The motion was seconded and approved on a roll-call vote with affirmative responses recorded.

Trustees also discussed and approved the township’s participation in a study examining consolidation or shared services with Harrison, Miami Township and Whitewater. Chief Davis said the vendor’s estimate would amount to “just shy of a grand per department” and asked trustees to authorize Crosby Township’s share; trustees directed staff to cover the cost from the general fund.

Why it matters: the firehouse project includes structural and safety upgrades—wall fireproofing, insulation, rebuilt supply/storage rooms and a new septic system and generator—items trustees said were necessary to finish the facility and reduce liability exposure. Trustees asked for a reconciliation of original bids, change orders and final costs to create a complete project file.

Vote and next steps: the supplemental appropriation motion carried by roll call (trustees answered in the affirmative); staff will prepare the supplemental resolution paperwork and the finance office will provide a reconciliation of project expenditures and change orders for trustee review.
