Evendale reports year-to-date revenue gains; public safety hires and park improvements noted

At the Evendale Village Council meeting, the finance committee reported stronger revenue results year to date and a modest net increase in reserves.
Councilman Burke reported July receipts of roughly $1,600,000, ‘‘approximately 12.6 increase over July 2024,’’ and total receipts to date of about $13,300,000 — a roughly 4.1% increase compared with the prior year. He summarized net reserve growth of approximately $163,000 and said staff will present ordinances to transfer contingency funds later in the meeting to cover seasonal salaries and other items.
Department reports followed. The fire department reported two firefighter-paramedic hires who have completed orientation, bringing the department to full staffing, upgrades to living-quarter flooring and recent railroad hazardous-materials training tied to changes in freight operations. A police representative said a safety task force reviewing July 4 operations identified changes for next year and that a conditional offer had been made to a police cadet. The service and engineering group briefed council on building construction punch-list work and a slipping hill behind the service department that requires a wall and additional cost.
Recreation and cultural updates included the nature play opening (heavy attendance), new sidewalks and programming: the Sunflower Festival, summer camps, and roughly 110 music-program enrollments. Gorman Heritage Farm is cataloguing historical-farming donations and installing directional signage. Council thanked Walmart volunteers who staffed water stations for a local run.
What happens next: staff will bring transfer ordinances discussed in the finance report for formal action (some adopted later in the same meeting), personnel hires will proceed per administrative process, and departments will continue project work and event planning.
