Glendale council confirms five volunteer firefighters and swears them in under emergency ordinance

The Village of Glendale council on the evening's agenda approved Ordinance 2025-41 confirming the appointment of five volunteer firefighters, establishing a one-year probationary period and declaring an emergency. Council moved and passed the measure and proceeded to administer the oath of office.

Lieutenant Robbie Fisher introduced the five candidates before the vote. He described each briefly: “We've got 5 coming in. One's Josh Thompson. He's a firefighter EMT with Forest Park,” and noted other candidates' backgrounds, including Caden Jones (Butler Tech graduate and competition placings), Corey Jones (Forest Park and BrightCare Medical Transport), Chris Harrison (Loveland Sims volunteer firefighter and GE employee), and Colton Piles (nine years with Milford Township).

After the roll calls on the motion to dispense with three readings and on the ordinance itself, the mayor swore the new volunteers, who recited the oath to support the U.S. and Ohio constitutions and to “faithfully discharge the duties of volunteer firemen for the Village of Glendale.” The mayor congratulated them and noted the council’s appreciation for the new additions.

The ordinance establishes a one-year probationary period for the appointees; council classified the item as an emergency to expedite the appointments and immediate swearing-in. The council did not discuss amendments to the ordinance during the meeting.

The council's action ensures five additional volunteer firefighters are available to the department while the village completes onboarding and probationary steps.
