Mariemont council adopts contract for pool-epoxy floors, then revokes emergency clause

The Village of Mariemont council approved a contract to apply epoxy flooring in the municipal pool house and briefly declared an emergency to authorize immediate contracting; the council later voted to revoke the emergency clause.

Safety-committee minutes had recommended completing the pool-house epoxy project this fall to improve appearance and cleaning ease and cited a cost estimate of $21,900; the minutes noted $10,000 had already been appropriated for 2025 pool house improvements. The committee unanimously recommended preparing emergency legislation so the work could proceed this year.

At the council meeting, a contractor quote from "Monster Coat" (listed in the agenda materials) was introduced and taken through first, second and third readings. Council members moved to adopt the contract and declare an emergency to allow contracting this season; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with ayes from all present members. The council then moved and voted to revoke the emergency clause.

During discussion a council member asked about the floor color; a council member noted the color name was "wombat," described as tones of dark gray and off-white, and said the pool commission had approved the design. The council recorded the necessary votes to adopt the contract and to remove the emergency clause in separate roll-call votes.

Next steps: staff will execute the contract with the named vendor and schedule the work for the fall; council will conduct the required second reading and follow procurement procedures consistent with the adopted contract.
