Michael Velardo spoke to the Village of Mariemont council on behalf of Kristen Cossum to describe services offered by the Madisonville Education and Assistance Center (MEEC), including the ParentChild+ program that provides in-home and daycare support for preschool children and parent education.
Velardo told council the organization operates a marketplace-style food pantry and reported a recent surge in need—23 new families signed up in one week, a roughly fivefold increase over a typical day. He invited council members and residents to an outreach event, 'cocktails and conversation,' to learn more about MEEC’s partnerships with preschool-promise programs and other child-success initiatives in Greater Cincinnati.
Council members thanked the speaker and suggested publishing MEEC information in the town crier and on village communications channels. Velardo offered printed materials and agreed to leave contact information and electronic copies for staff dissemination. He said some legacy services such as a coat drive have been taken up by other groups since the pandemic, but MEEC remains nimble in responding to changed community needs.
No formal action or funding request was made at the meeting; staff and council agreed to help publicize MEEC’s upcoming event.
