Southwest School District outlines timeline for new Crosby Elementary; trustees warned to expect construction traffic and studies

Mike King, vice president of the Southwest School District, updated trustees on plans for a new Crosby Elementary. He said design and funding work is complete and that excavation will begin in summer 2019 with the construction process taking roughly two years. "We will be opening Crosby Elementary, the new Crosby Elementary, in the 2021," King said, and that the new building is expected to serve about 800 students.
King said construction traffic will be routed through the east-side teacher parking area and that the district will work with Hamilton County and Crosby Township on traffic studies. He noted the plan currently calls for demolishing the old school building to make room for parking and playgrounds, and that some existing facilities such as a picnic shelter may need to be moved or adjusted.
Trustees raised concerns about narrow access drives and suggested planners consider traffic control measures during construction; King said the district would keep township officials informed and that recordings and 3-D presentations from a recent town-hall meeting were available on the district website.
