Griggs County commissioners on Dec. 22 scheduled a special meeting for Dec. 30 at 9:30 a.m. to pay the remainder of 2025 bills and approved the current batch of bills during the meeting. The board approved the Dec. 8 meeting minutes earlier in the session.
County staff told commissioners there is about $65,000 available in the vehicle fund and that vehicle upfitting work for a pickup (lights, sirens, and equipment) would cost roughly $17,518; commissioners discussed spreading some costs between this year and next and planned to place the bill on the Dec. 30 agenda for payment. Commissioners also discussed moving commissioner compensation to regular payroll beginning in January so taxes and workers' compensation are processed through payroll rather than issuing periodic checks; staff will circulate payroll forms for the special meeting.
On holiday scheduling, staff noted a presidential executive order designating Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and related days as federal holidays; the commissioners voted that courthouse employees may take the Friday after New Year's as vacation (motion by Zorn, seconded and carried by voice vote). The board also heard requests about maintenance at the old courthouse and asked for receipts for a proposed mat and for an electrician or staff to install power to an outbuilding; the items will be revisited at the Jan. 5 meeting.
The meeting concluded with confirmation of the Dec. 30 special meeting (bills only) and a regular meeting on Jan. 5, at which commissioners will also nominate chair and vice chair and consider Load Pass and pipeline contract drafts.
