Hoover City staff presented a budget amendment to pay for repairs and renovations at the Hoover Met after a November 17 water-main break undermined the left-field bullpen.
The amendment (listed as an item during the work session) would transfer $80,000 from unspent funds in the rec-center roofing project to repair the damaged bullpen, renovate the opposite bullpen, and install a sewer line connecting to the portable restroom used during tournaments. Staff said the transfer would leave about $200,000 remaining in the roofing project account for other uses. A city finance representative noted the $80,000 transfer was proposed from leftover project funds.
Council members asked whether the $80,000 would be sufficient and whether the work might be a temporary "Band-Aid" repair; staff said they did not expect costs to exceed the $80,000 estimate and that materials would take roughly six to eight weeks to arrive, a timing factor driving the request. No formal vote was recorded in the work session; staff indicated the item will return for formal action on the regular meeting agenda.
