Glendale Heights previews new accessible village website, plans soft launch

Glendale Heights officials on Thursday previewed a redesigned village website that will combine village information and leisure-services content in a single platform and add accessibility, alerting and calendar features.
"To continue improving how we communicate with and serve our residents, it became the right time to move forward with a new modern website," staff member Luisa told the board during a live demonstration of the CivicPlus platform. The site will include mega menus, searchable news pages, department-level editing and an integrated events calendar residents can subscribe to on their phones.
Luisa said the village is implementing an automated web-accessibility checker to help staff meet modern accessibility standards and that online PDFs will be readable by screen readers. She described two alert types: a banner for routine notices and a popup for major emergencies such as water-main breaks or road closures. Staff training is underway and the village expects a soft launch in the coming weeks followed by a public push in early 2026.
The presentation also covered logistics: current web addresses will remain (glendaleheights.org and ghrec.org), common links may be redirected, and departments will be able to update their own pages without relying on a central webmaster. Jason Engberg, director of community development, said departments are migrating content and preparing calendars and event listings for the new site.
The board did not take a vote on the website; staff said they will bring the site fully live after completing migration and final checks.
The village is encouraging residents to sign up for calendar notifications and said staff will continue to post event and emergency information on social channels and the website.
