Virgil Harden presented the district’s fiscal-year 2024–25 audit to the board and described the financial statements as presenting fairly in all material respects. "In our opinion, the accompanying basic financial statements present fairly in all material respects," Harden read, signaling an unqualified opinion under the modified cash basis the district is now using to capture capital assets and depreciation.
Harden highlighted note disclosures including a new compensated-absences liability that would total just under $1.4 million as of Aug. 31, 2025, and an additional reported amount of about $947,000 related to negotiated sick-leave payouts for eligible staff. He also reported a material weakness in internal controls over capital assets stemming from documentation gaps on projects funded with CARES Act money and recommended improved recordkeeping; the district’s response appears as an attachment to the audit.
Harden noted federal-program audit reporting (for Title I, IDEA and GEAR UP) is pending final federal guidance, which the auditors could not legally finalize until official guidance is issued. After presentation the board accepted and placed the audit report on file by motion.
