Papillion La Vista board honors state cross‑country champions and hears student council updates

The Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board of Education opened its Nov. 10 meeting by honoring student athletes and hearing a student council report.
Superintendent Doctor Rickley recognized Emily Heggie of Papillion La Vista South High School as the Class A girls state cross‑country individual champion, noting she also serves on the superintendent’s student advisory council. "We couldn't be prouder of your accomplishments," Rickley said as Heggie and her coach, Hazel Horst, were invited forward for recognition and photographs.
The board then recognized the La Vista Middle School girls cross‑country team as the 2025 Nebraska State Junior High champions, the program’s third consecutive state title. Rickley called the streak "a dynasty" and invited the team to the dais.
Student council members Abigail Bender and Maddie Larson of Papillion La Vista South reported on a range of student activities: ongoing ACT and PSAT prep, a college and career fair that hosted more than 60 vendors, a state student council convention that drew about 550 students from roughly 32 schools, and a Cornhusker Award for the yearbook staff. The students also previewed upcoming fine‑arts and winter sports schedules.
The recognitions and student council update set a community tone at the start of the meeting; no formal board action was required for these items.
The board moved on to regular business after the presentations.
