Unnamed Speaker 1, a board member, told colleagues the district aims to make a decision on proposed high-school schedule changes by Dec. 1, citing the need to complete parts of the scheduling process and notify staff and families in time for semester planning.
The board discussed several models — including 3-day/2-day block rotations and full five-day blocks — and noted trade-offs for course selection, class offerings and teacher workload. "We would make a decision, and that's December 1," Unnamed Speaker 1 said, stressing that December timing matters for process steps the district must complete.
Board members and staff said they want more time to gather input and set priorities. Unnamed Speaker 6 urged the board to identify clear priorities before finalizing a schedule, including teacher professional development: "The teachers need in service on teaching strategies. We need to set them up to succeed," the speaker said.
The board agreed to hold an additional work session or workshop to gather information and clarify boundaries before the Dec. 1 decision. The meeting produced no formal motion or vote on the schedule; the board described the next step as a staff-informed decision at the deadline.
The board will collect additional staff and community feedback at the planned work session and return to finalize any policy or calendar changes at a subsequent working meeting.
