Trustees honored student achievements including the holiday card art contest winner, All-Region music qualifiers, theater awards and national qualifiers, and FFA’s national 3-star chapter recognition.
The Red Oak ISD Board of Trustees opened the meeting with multiple recognitions of student and program achievements across the district.
Miss Sanford described the 18th annual holiday card art contest and announced the winning artwork: "Chrislyn McFadden from Doctor Joy Shaw Middle School." Band director Justin Wood recognized students who made All-Region ensembles and noted the audition process begins in July and requires intensive practice. Choir representatives named students who qualified for all-district and all-region honors and said one choir member remains in contention for All-State.
Theater director Jericho Thomas highlighted the fall play Pride and Prejudice, which was selected as one of six schools in Texas to perform on the main stage at the Texas Thespian State Festival; he also named students and technicians who received awards and qualified for the International Thespian Festival. Athletic recognitions included two cross-country seniors who advanced to regionals and a volleyball team that finished 30–12 and second in district, the program’s first 30-win season in five years. FFA advisors announced the program earned a national 3-star chapter rating and recognized chapter officers and competitive teams that advanced to area and national competitions.
Board members applauded the students and staff; several asked coaches and directors to pass on thanks to parents and volunteers. The recognitions were ceremonial and informational; no board votes were associated with these items.
