Council signs nonbinding MOU to explore centralized storage for Rosemount AAA

Rosemount, Minn. — The Rosemount City Council on Dec. 16 approved a nonbinding memorandum of understanding with the Rosemount Area Athletic Association (AAA) to explore building a centralized storage facility for youth-sports equipment.
Council member Klimpel introduced the item and turned it over to Parks staff, who said AAA currently stores equipment at several locations and has identified four potential sites for a central building. Parks staff said the MOU is nonbinding and is intended to guide further planning and conversations; they noted the AAA is "willing to pay for it" but that an example $15,000 figure cited would not necessarily be a hard cap if costs are higher.
"We are just agreeing to work through a process to try to get to an area where we can store," Parks staff said. The Parks and Natural Resources Commission asked staff to prioritize locations with existing infrastructure to avoid adding major street or parking costs.
Council moved and approved the recommendation to sign the nonbinding MOU (motion by Klimpel, second by Esler). Staff said it will report back to council and the Parks Commission as planning progresses.
Next steps: staff will continue site evaluation and return to council and the Parks and Natural Resources Commission with recommendations; construction, locations and cost-sharing arrangements remain to be determined.
