Zweber said he visited city hall multiple times and that "the city clerk had no idea" how a person obtains a bees permit. He said he received a citation and a fine, and that a recent email telling him the permit information was "up on the website" was not adequate outreach. "I don't normally go check the website," Zweber said.
Zweber also criticized the cost of the bee permit, saying a $100 initial fee and a $50 annual renewal seemed excessive for something the city promotes — native plants and pollinators. He told council the code-enforcement officer had been unresponsive except for a letter in mid-November and that he often only gets a response when he posts on Facebook.
Mayor referred the matter to staff for follow-up with code enforcement, saying the city will look into the concerns. The council did not take any formal action beyond the referral.
