Council approves cooperative purchasing agreements for station equipment

The council approved two related cooperative-purchasing measures that will allow the city to purchase equipment through existing contracts.
Staff introduced resolution 2025-15 to enter a cooperative purchasing agreement with Region 16 Education Service, describing items of interest as lockers and room beds for Fire Station No. 2 and noting there is no membership fee. The clerk recorded a motion "from Mr. McCallie" with a second from Mr. Potter.
Staff also presented resolution 2025-16 to join the Virginia Sheriffs Association first-responders supply and equipment procurement program and to authorize the city manager to enter an interlocal agreement. The stated purpose was to access certain vendors, including a working-fire furniture and mattress company that staff identified as offering the most responsible pricing. Council discussed an effective date listed in the National Cooperative Purchasing Agreement (Nov. 17) and staff said the document would be updated to reflect the current date.
A motion to approve the Virginia Sheriffs Association interlocal agreement was moved and seconded; roll-call votes were recorded (Turner, Ruth, Potter, Kelly, Steven and Board of Mayors all voting "Yes") and the clerk announced the motion carried 6 to 0.
Outcome: Both cooperative purchasing items were presented with packets included in the council materials and were approved by the council; staff said there are no fees required to enter the agreements and that the agreements are in the meeting packet for review.
