School security grant, CTE and enrollment-driven FY2026 budget adjustments approved

The Board approved two FY2026 school budget supplements after an overview from Dr. Sykes. The packet (pages 63'66) described multiple supplemental appropriations: leftover Title II and Title III federal funds, the CTE state payment and a new CTE grant, an annual school security grant and a supplemental appropriation for the I-Teach teacher licensure program.
Dr. Sykes explained the school security grant will fund "access control phones at the high school and the elementary school, stocking additional door lock hardware...and additional cameras at all 3 schools." She said some adjustments in the FY2026 budget also reflect a slightly different student enrollment projection than the original budget and that a small number of instructional positions were not filled, allowing reallocations to meet state funding changes.
Board members pressed for clarity on categories labeled "purchase services" and the movement of funds between personnel and operating lines; Dr. Sykes and staff explained that the adjustments moved unspent salary allocations into categories covering local matches for grants and other operating needs. Both budget motions passed on roll call with unanimous support.
The board also discussed the governor's upcoming biannual budget release and noted state budget timing will affect FY2026 and FY2027 planning. No additional action was requested beyond approval of the supplemental appropriations.
