Annapolis council honors Police Foundation, hears $564,320 donation from boat shows and preview of 2026 programming

At the start of its Dec. 8 meeting the Annapolis City Council presented a city council citation to the Annapolis Police Foundation in recognition of the organization's programs that work with youth and the community.
Mary Hewinson of the Annapolis Boat Shows told the council the 2025 events were successful despite weather issues and presented a payment to the city of $564,320.81. "It is a really, really big check. It is $564,320.81," Hewinson said, thanking the city and construction partners for cooperation during City Dock work.
Representatives of the Annapolis 250 Commission outlined plans for next year's commemoration of the nation's 250th anniversary, including a "Voices Project" to gather 250 local voices, partnerships on public art (including a proposed mural), a July 3 Hamilton screening at St. John's College, May Day and July 4 programming centered around the State House and People's Park, and children's and multicultural events. The commission described three pillars guiding programming — power of place, we the people, and unfinished revolution — and encouraged council members to engage with planning subcommittees.
The presentations included thanks to city staff and volunteers and emphasized collaboration to minimize event impacts during ongoing City Dock construction.
