Ashley Villarreal, executive director of Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful, presented the organization's annual activities and partnerships to the council, highlighting quarterly tech-cycle collections with STS Recycling, an adopt-a-highway segment through TxDOT, waterway cleanups, a citywide cleanup challenge and a tire-recycle event that collected roughly 580 tires.
Villarreal described the group's volunteer board and noted that many events are partnerships with the city, Cook Tire and Stephen F. Austin State University volunteers. "We collected over 500 tires, and that number is actually closer to the 600 range," she said, adding she believed the tally was about 580. The group also reported distributing about 200 native trees during Texas Arbor Day efforts and running a Christmas-light collection into January for recycling.
Council members thanked the organization for its work and discussed timing for a future spring citywide cleanup when SFA students and other volunteers might be available. No council action was required; the presentation was informational.
