The Sawyer County Health and Human Services committee voted Tuesday to keep its monthly meeting schedule and leave the January meeting on the calendar, with the option to abbreviate reports if little new business arises. Chair opened the motion; a member seconded it and the motion carried.
The decision followed a lengthy discussion led by Julia, who said January meetings often fall right after holidays and yield little new data. Multiple members, including Tweed Schumann, argued for retaining monthly oversight because HHS oversees one of the county’s largest budget areas and elected officials must stay current on expenditures.
Board members also raised logistics that affect attendance. Marshall Savitsky (speaking via text) and others said the current 6:30 p.m. start time makes it hard for working residents to attend. Several proposed an earlier start, such as 5:00 or 5:30 p.m.; the committee agreed to revisit any time change at the April meeting.
The committee approved the minutes from its prior meeting by voice vote earlier in the session. No public comments were received prior to the motions.
The committee adjourned after routine committee updates and holiday remarks.
